The school was closed following a fight between two relatives of a pupil at the school that resulted in a 67-year-old’s death. The victim was taken to hospital in Leiria with “injuries caused by gun shots and a knife", the hospital told Lusa News Agency.
The victim was still alive when he reached the A&E at Leiria hospital, but attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.
The fight was due to a disagreement between the two relatives, the police said, adding that several shots were fired and there were various knife wounds.
The 40-year-old perpetrator was arrested by police officers and is being detained, the police added.
The incident happened in the school atrium and was witnessed by several pupils who are receiving psychological assistance.
The BBC Headline and other news reports make it clear that a child custody battle was behind this deadly attack. Why no mention here? Not only is a motherless child now left without his protective grandfather, but his own father is a murderer and his classmates have been traumatized. Fathers who turn violent in the midst of custody disputes is an epidemic in the United States, studied by the Center for Judicial Excellence in California. Perhaps a follow-up piece?
