IPMA told reporters the situation was due to a low pressure system over Morocco that was carrying suspended dust from North Africa in its winds.
The system is affecting a huge area from Tunisia to the Canaries as well as the Iberian Peninsula and Madeira.
The weather agency said the dust gives the sky a yellowish colour but it should gradually disappear over the coming days.
On Thursday 23 Feb I found my car covered in large orange blobs of mud. All the cars in Silves were the same, but east of Silves the cars were clean. I live near Odelouca.
