According to the decree, which will now be finalised by a parliamentary commission, abusing these parking spaces should become a serious offence, which in addition to a bigger fine, could see drivers lose their licences for 30 days and be docked two to three points.
The leftists had also proposed an amendment to the Highway Code for it to be considered “a serious misdemeanour to stop and/or park in places reserved for persons with disabilities” by “any vehicles other than those conducted by a person authorised to do so.”
The two parties also had proposals calling for handicapped and disabled drivers to be given free parking in publicly-owned car parks, approved by MPs.
In a statement the Left Bloc said it finds it “incomprehensible” that disabled people are obliged to pay for parking when they go, for example, to a public hospital.
