Portugal has received 929 refugees relocated from Greece, compared with its commitment to the EC take in a total of 1,778, giving a compliance rate of 52%.

Portugal also accepted 299 people from Italy, or some 25% of the 1,173 that the country should receive.

In total, Portugal is expected to receive 2,951 relocated migrants, so the 1,228 received so far is 42% of that number, much higher than the 17% average throughout the European Union (EU).

Brussels said that Portugal was one of the member states that was “consistently respecting its obligations towards Greece and Italy”, but this latest report called for more candidates to be accepted as “some have been waiting to be transferred since November 2016”.

In absolute terms, Germany has taken in the most (3,511), followed by France (3,157) and Holland (1,636), while Malta and Finland are close to complying with the number of people they were attributed.
