According to the EU’s Ageing Report for 2018, Portugal is set to lose two million inhabitants over the next fifty years, with the population increasing in age.
This will result in the working population being drastically reduced, with the number of 15 to 64 year old dropping by 37 percent over the next five decades.
This is purely speculative. No one has ever been able to forecast, what will happen during a period of 50 years. Just look at the history of Portugal - or of the UK.
Actually, Portugal is in a very favorable position right now. The economy is growing, optimism is everywhere. Under the present government and presidency the pessimism of the past years is fading away. Portugal is a very attractive place to invest or to settle down for North Europeans. So, let's see, what the experts from EU will predict in fifty years from now (if it still exists!).
