The overwhelming majority of the 163 hospitals assessed by the Health Regulatory Authority, met quality criteria in terms of clinical excellence, according to the National System of Health Evaluation (SINSAS).
SINSAS evaluated 163 hospitals, both public and private, who voluntarily submitted to an evaluation and the results show that 130 of the 163 units obtained the distinction of Clinical Excellence.
According to the Regulatory Authority of Health (ERS), the number of units that achieved clinical excellence has increased since the previous evaluation held in June this year, with the highest levels of quality found in the areas of orthopedics, outpatient surgery and gynaecology.
The evaluation also looked in to the levels of patient safety in the hospitals, with the results showing that 76 percent of the units met the required criteria in this area.
