The positions were transmitted to Lusa and radio station Antena 1 by Pedro Soares (Left Bloc), Berta Cabral (PSD), Maria da Luz Rosinha (PS), Ana Virgínia Pereira (PCP), José Luís Ferreira (PEV) and André Silva (PAN), who are members of the parliamentary delegation that is in Marrakesh until Friday at the UN climate conference (COP22).

The chairman of the Parliamentary Environment Commission and Left Bloc MP, Pedro Soares, first of all said he was concerned as the countries had not yet reached an operating agreement about common rules to apply the Paris Agreement, which was signed last year and has been ratified by Portugal – and then, he said, because of the negativist talk regarding global warming by president elect, Donald Trump.

"The Paris Agreement was historic and so the other countries have to send a firm message to the US, which has a great importance in the emission of Greenhouse Gases", Pedro Soares said.

Former secretary of state Berta Cabral subscribed to the Left Bloc MP’s position and said he expected “common sense” by Donald Trump so that "global interest would prevail", and the Paris Agreement could be put into effect quickly.
