The President of the CPR went as far as admitting there may have been cases of refugees in Portugal being groomed by IS fanatics.
Teresa Tito de Morais said at this moment there is no particular concern with possible “attempts of recruitment of refugees to the extremist group’s branches”, but conceded that in recent years it may have happened.
She said the CPR is therefore keeping an eye out for any possible endeavours in that sense.
Ms. De Morais’ comments came after a Moroccan national was extradited from Germany to Portugal last week following a request from national authorities on suspicion of him having recruited would-be fighters for IS in Portugal.
The 63-year-old is being held in police custody in an isolated cell at Monsanto prison.
The suspect, Abdelssalam Tazi, faces charges of belonging to and supporting the terrorist group.
