The organisation’s president has called on fellow institutions to come forward in order to help the country better accommodate the steady increase of refugees expected to arrive in Portugal.
“Within about a month we will have reached our capacity”, explained PAR president Rui Marques.
PAR currently works with 350 fellow organisations and institutions to home refugees, though they currently only accommodate about 700 people.
With regard to the integration of refugee families, Rui Marques said the work being done is challenging, adding that the greatest difficulties being faced by refugees are centred around the learning of the Portuguese language.
The PAR president added that this problem is further exacerbated by the fact that the refugees don’t share a common language, making the teaching of Portuguese even more demanding.
