According to the National Authority for Road Safety this total represented a rise of 25 deaths when compared with the same period in 2014, which translates into an increase of just over seven percent.
The number of collisions on Portuguese roads was also up, as too were the number of serious injuries caused.
This does not surprise me in the least as the Portuguese drivers are the worst I have ever come across. I used to drive 50,000 miles every year in the UK and Europe but here everybody seems to drive so close to the car up front, they drive in the middle of the road and cut corners and overtake on blind bends they never give way to anything and have no road hospitality what so ever. I am not a slow driver by any means but since I have lived here I have to drive defensively as I never know what the other driver is going to do' its normally something mad. Lovely people but they do seem to have a death wish when behind the wheels of a car.

Couldn't agree more with the above comment. Drivers in Portugal are SO dangerous. They are incredibly impatient and regularly risk their lives performing extremely dangerous manoevres. The 125 especially is terrifying to drive on - especially at night!

Agree with the last message, have also been a driver for many years and never seen so many bad drivers as there is here ,don't know what lane to be in on a roundabout, always see people on the phone whilst driving and again drive far to close to the car in front a lot don't indicate where they are going its all common sense. and why do some drivers here always seem to want to overtake on a very busy road? Maybe its also time to educate the driving instructors again and make the lessons more. Sad that so many innocent people are injured or killed due to stupidity.

I cycle thousands of kilometres per year in Portugal. I find car drivers courteous and patient and in the last 5 years have never been involved in an altercation with a Portuguese motorist. In the UK on the other hand it is most unusual not to fall victim to at least some kind of mild road rage every time I venture out.

I totally agree with David Hathaway's comment. People here drive as if they WANT to have an accident. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. They're well read people, they know the statistics, they've lived abroad and seen people driving farther behind the car in front of them. Why not learn from it and change this dangerous, destructive (even self-destructive) behavior?
