According to the CDOS District Rescue Operations Central, two fire-fighters were also injured while tackling the blaze.
The fire broke out at close to midnight on Sunday on the ground floor of a ten-storey building and completely destroyed the bedroom and kitchen of the apartment it started in.
It was extinguished around half an hour later.
A source from CDOS told newspaper Correio da Manhã that fifteen people had to be treated for smoke inhalation, eight at the scene while another seven had to be taken to hospital.
Two firemen are said to have sustained injuries to their lower limbs.
A total of 13 vehicles and 37 fire-fighters were dispatched to the scene from the Amadora and Queluz fire-brigades along with INEM medics, PSP police and members of Amadora’s Civil Protection unit.
