In an interview with Stockholm newspaper Expressen, the Swedish Finance Minister reportedly revealed that she had a serious discussion with her Portuguese counterpart over the matter.
Magdalena Andersson further revealed that Mário Centeno had shown a certain level of understanding.
She had also earlier told Swedish television that citizens who move to Portugal should do so for reasons such as the climate, green wine or Fado, and not to avoid paying taxes.
One could believe that the Sewedish Finance Minister is concerned about swedes living in Portugal does not pay taxes on their servicepensions in Portugal. That is NOT THE CASE.
She wants to collect tax revenues to the Swedish state. She wants this category to pay taxes in Sweden while living in Portugal.
The state of Sweden already takes 20% from the general pension. Now she wants 20% on the service pension as well. This WILL NOT benefit Portugal. On the contrary, increased taxes on swedish pensions will limit investments in Portugal. Less space to go to restaurants, buy services from Portuguese companies and so on. It will only benefit Sweden.
If Portugal agrees to put an end to this tax exemption, it will harm Portuguese economy.
If I shall pay taxes I want to do it in Portugal, my new home that I love so much, not in Sweden I have left everything there, so why should they have the right to tax me at all?
