The airbags are liable to explode and project metallic pieces throughout the interior of the vehicle whenever subject to excessive pressure in a default only identified following six deaths in Honda produced vehicles.


The first manufacturers to bring about a recall of vehicles were Nissan and Toyota with an overall total of in excess of 6.5 million cars whilst in Portugal that meant the former refitting 2,458 automobiles while the latter deals with 16,000 plus recalls.


Earlier this month, Honda had reported that it would be recalling 12,000 cars in Portugal, a drop in the ocean of the 4.89 million cars with confirmed airbag defects and against a backdrop of 19.6 million of Honda vehicles that would require checking.


In turn, Takata, the supplier of the defective airbags, has said it would be participating in the replacement of some 30 million car airbags.
