According to figures released today by Jornal de Notícias, the three thousand drivers were mostly fined for not exiting roundabouts from the right-hand lane.
Drivers were also reportedly fined for remaining in the right-hand lane even though they only intended to exit at a later stage.
The new roundabout traffic laws were introduced in 2014, but remain a constant topic of debate among confused motorists who face fines of up to 300 euros for not following the law.

Use of mobile phones, failure to indicate intended direction, understanding of 'Giveway' signs and roundabout approach knowledge and etiquette is a far worse repetitive crime in Portugal

The main problem it seems ,is that all the illustrations of the correct procedure, show 3 lanes .
Most or all of the roundabouts that I know of here have only 2.
Last week on a nearby round about there was a car, obviously sticking to the outside lane most of the way round,a car on the inside who was exiting on the second turning had to cut across, not good. Also when entering if there is a car coming from the left in the outside lane, you would assume it was exiting at the first road, but often ,not the case. It is all such a muddle, and many don't seem to get the message.
Be careful out there.

This is obviously a money scam. Cops who carry out orders such as these deserve to have their ****** removed.
