The flight was en-route from East Midlands to Tenerife in the Canaries and, according to Ryanair, was forced to make a detour after ta passenger became disruptive in-flight.

Authorities were called to the scene and a man was arrested.

In a statement sent to The Portugal News, Ryanair said: “This flight from East Midlands to Tenerife (5 Sep) diverted to Porto Santo after a passenger became disruptive inflight. The aircraft landed normally, and the passenger was removed and detained by police upon arrival before the aircraft continued to Tenerife shortly after.

"We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police."
