The 25 teams were presented before the start of the first stage in Albufeira. The race itself started shortly after noon, ending after a 192-kilometre stage five hours later in Lagos.
The race takes place over five days, with the stages between Sagres and Monchique, Lagoa, Almodôvar and Tavira ending on Sunday with a stage between Faro and Loulé.
This year’s Volta ao Algarve cycling race is also being broadcast in 120 countries, and is being televised in five continents, to countries including New Zealand, Japan, and Canada. In Portugal the race will be covered on Eurosport2 and TVI24.
