Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited the Web Summit for about an hour on Thursday, accompanied by Daire Hickey, co-founder of this technology conference, by the economy minister, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, and the secretary of state for industry, João Vasconcelos.
At the end of the visit, reporters asked him for his opinion of this edition of the Web Summit, which ends today. "A spectacular success. I came here to congratulate [Daire Hickey], because in no time at all he set up this reality for thousands and thousands of people. Next year it is going to be 80,000", the president said.
The Lisbon Web Summit, which began on Monday and ends today had 53,000 participants from 166 countries, including 15,000 companies, 7,000 CEOs and 700 investors.
Carefull what you wish for. Online technologies will drive prices down, but at the expense of local shops. Families will suffer unemployment, town and villages will see shops closed never to reopen, and pollution hits thd room from longer journeys to shopping malls and from delivery vans. The upside is for China to sell more tat to us as condumption of useless, unreliable products increases!
