Portugal was the fourth largest wine producer in the European Union (EU) in 2019, with seven hundred million liters, a 5 percent of the total of a table led by Italy, according to data released on 19 November by Eurostat.
Last year the EU produced 15.8 billion litres of wine - a category that includes champagne, sparkling wine, and port - with Italy contributing most ( 5.5 billion litres, 35 percent), followed by Spain (4.3 billion litres, 27 percent), France (3.4 billion, 21 percent), Portugal (seven hundred million litres, 5 percent) , Germany (seven hundred million, 4 percent) and Hungary (four hundred million, 25 of the EU total).
The main partners for EU wine exports are the United Kingdom and the United States, which account for 44 percent of the total.
