Singer Maria Mendes is nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Arrangements, Instrumentals and Vocals, with the theme "Asas Closed" by Amália Rodrigues, who recorded on the album "Close to me", with John Beasley and metropole Orkest of the Netherlands, released in October 2019.

It was with this same song that Maria Mendes and John Beasley were nominated this year for the Latin Grammys, without having won the award in their category. "Close to me" is the Portuguese singer's third album, which has been in the Netherlands for more than a decade, and the first fully performed album in Portuguese.

In an interview with Lusa, when the album came out, Maria Mendes recalled that the idea of "taking fado and Portuguese folklore, and having them as a starting point for a more modern and conceptual musical creative concept", arose following an invitation to join the jazz day festivities in Rotterdam.

For the 63rd Grammy Awards, American singer Beyoncé is the one with the most nominations, in nine categories, namely the Record of the Year and Best R&B Performance, with the song "Black Parade". "Black is king", which the singer released this year on the Disney + platform, is nominated for Best Musical Film.
