Since 15 May, when seven deaths were registered, the number of daily deaths has not been so high.
In the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS it is pointed out that 532 people with covid-19 are hospitalised today, 23 more than on Thursday, 118 of which in intensive care units, five more.
The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo area has 56.2 percent of the total of new infections, concentrating 1,371 new cases.
The seven deaths in the last 24 hours, of people over 80 years old and aged between 70 and 78 years, occurred in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (5), in the North region (1) and in the region of the Alentejo (1).
Data released by the DGS also show that there are over 1,174 active cases, totalling 35,855 and that 1,255 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the national total to 831,479 recovered.

The number of contacts under surveillance by health authorities registered a high increase in the last 24 hours, 2,588, totalling 55,848.
The incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal continues to grow, standing today at 194.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as in the entire territory, which is now 189.4, according to official data.
On Wednesday, the incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal was 176.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the value for the entire territory stood at 172.8.
According to the joint epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), the transmissibility index (Rt) rose from 1.14 to 1.16 throughout the national territory and from 1.15 to 1.17 in mainland Portugal.
The transmissibility index and the 14-day incidence data are updated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 1,371 new infections, counts so far 342,748 cases and 7,272 deaths.
In the Northern region there are today 553 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 346,944 cases of infection and 5,367 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Centre region there were 178 more cases, with a total of 122,520 infections and 3,027 deaths.
In the Alentejo, another 92 cases were reported, totalling 31,142 infections and 973 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 213 cases were registered, totalling 24,919 infections and 365 deaths.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 13 cases, totalling 9,951 infections and 70 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.
The Azores now have 16 new cases, accounting for 6,218 cases and 34 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
Of the total number of fatalities, 8,981 were men and 8,127 women.
The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
Of the total deaths, 11,228 were over 80 years old, 3,653 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,541 were between 60 and 69 years old.
