Since 19 June, Portugal had no fewer than 100 people hospitalised with covid-19 in Intensive Care Units, when the bulletin reported that 99 patients were hospitalised in the ICU.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) 474 people are now hospitalised with Covid-19, 23 fewer than on Thursday, 97 of them in intensive care units, less six in the last 24 hours.

The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo area, with 374 new cases, and the North region, with 372, have 72.9% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (3), in the North region (2), in the Centre region (1) and in the Algarve (1).

Regarding the ages of the victims, three were over 80 years old, one between 70 and 79, one between 60 and 69, one between 50 and 59 and one between 40 and 49.

Regarding the age characterisation of new confirmed cases of infection, it is between 40 and 49 years old (men and women) that there were more cases, with more than 161 infected in the last 24 hours.

This is followed by the age groups between 50 and 59 (150), between 20 and 29 years (143 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years (135 new cases).

Data released by the DGS also show that there are less than 539 active cases, totalling 34,626.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,895 people have died in Portugal and 1,060,432 cases of infection have been registered.

Health authorities have been under surveillance in the last 24 hours for 811 people, totalling 31,704.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 374 new infections, has so far accounted for 410,388 cases and 7,647 deaths.

In the Northern region, 372 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 407,446 cases of infection and 5,542 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 143 more cases, with a total of 141,686 infections and 3,125 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 37 more cases were reported, totalling 38,307 infections and 1,014 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 78 new cases, accumulating 41,826 infections and 453 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 13 new cases, totaling 12,082 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have six new cases, accounting for 8,697 cases and 42 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 489,693 men and 569,993 women, show data from the DGS, according to which there are 743 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,385 were men and 8,510 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,677 were over 80 years old, 3,832 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,628 were between 60 and 69 years old.
