The celebration began with a discussion session on the life and works of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal at the Embassy. Officers and Embassy staff took part in the discussion, highlighting the life of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal and his contributions to the political, cultural, society and sports in Bangladesh.
At the outset of the speech, Ambassador Tarik Ahsan paid glowingtribute to the memory of freedom fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Recalling the life Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, Ambassador said that he was as courageous and outspoken as his father in realising the rights and emancipation of the Bangalee people. He actively participated in the mass uprising of 1969 and the great Liberation War of 1971 as a fighter, organiser and ideological activist of the Bangladesh Chhatra League. He was also one of the foremost organisers of sports and cultural movement of post-independent Bangladesh, the Ambassador added. He also said that, the short life span of 26 years of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal was graced by remarkable achievements. The life and works of multitalented Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal will remain a source of inspiration for the people of Bangladesh particularly for the young generations.
A documentary on the life and work of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal titled “Sheikh Kamal: A Tale of Legend” was also screened after the discussion session.
Finally, a special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for Bangabandhu, Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal and other martyred members of his family as well as for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
