In a post on Facebook, the GNR states: “We suggest using a defroster to inhibit ice or frost build-up to ensure visibility while driving”.

The post adds that: “You can also prepare a "homemade" defrosting liquid to spray glass, just follow one of the following recipes":

- To three parts water, one of vinegar; or

- To two parts of water, one of alcohol.

“Alternatively shave the ice using a plastic card you have in your wallet”.

They conclude with a warning: “Do not put alcohol or vinegar in the windshield wiper water tank”.
