The DGS epidemiological bulletin also reveals that 5,230 people are hospitalised, 340 fewer, the largest drop in the number of hospitalisations since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 846 are in intensive care units, another 10.

The biggest reduction in the number of hospitalised patients until today was registered on 9 February, when the bulletin reported that 274 people were hospitalised.

The data released today also indicate that 7,617 people have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered people to 652,739 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020.

For 12 consecutive days, the number of recoveries exceeds that of new infections.

Active cases in Portugal also registered a decrease. There are 113,450 people with the active virus, down 4,912 from Thursday.

Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 15,034 deaths associated with covid-19 and 781,223 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Regarding the 149 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 64 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 35 in the North region, 32 in the Centro region, 10 in the Alentejo, seven in the Algarve region and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 1,366 new infections were reported, accounting for 293,283 cases and 6,132 deaths so far.

Lisbon and the Tagus Valley have held 40.7 percent of total deaths nationwide since the start of the pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, this region registered 47.8 percent of the total new cases nationwide and 42.9 percent of registered deaths.

The North region today has 720 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already counted 320,556 cases of infection and 4,991 deaths.

In the Centre region, 427 more cases were recorded, with 111,561 infections and 2,678 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 142 more cases were reported, totalling 27,546 infections and 862 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region has today reported 109 new cases, totalling 19,249 infections and 284 deaths.

Madeira registered 74 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 5,368 infections and 59 deaths due to covid-19.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 16 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 3,660 infections and 28 deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

Of the total fatalities, 7,840 were men and 7,194 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total of 15,034 deaths, 10,060 were people over 80 years old, 3,117 were aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,288 were between 60 and 69 years old.
