According to the minister, seven more babies were born per day in the SNS, "which proves that the system is working, with quality and safety".
The minister was speaking to journalists after a visit to the S. José hospital in Lisbon, as part of a World Youth Day (WYD) initiative.
Regarding the salary negotiations with the doctors' unions, the minister said he was very committed to a constructive dialogue with all health professionals, and stressed several times that this dialogue should be done at the negotiating table and not in the media.
It remains to be announced which groups are having all these babies. There are many Non-Europeans who come to Portugal to have their babies in the attempt to gain residency and then move on to Northern European countries. It's called baby dumping.

It is obviously a good news! Numbers are increasing as many using Portugal immigration and health services to fix their immigration status in the EU. Authorities should know where most of the couples are coming from and where they are moving to after the baby is born. We need to calculate the ultimate outcome!
