The GNR district command of Bragança explains, in a statement, that the Criminal Investigation Nucleus (NIC) in Mirandela detained, on 16 June, “a couple aged 56 and 60 for drug trafficking and dismantled a cannabis greenhouse in the municipality of Mirandela”.
According to the source, “the couple, who lived in the countryside surrounded by vegetation, took advantage of the location of the residence to plant, dry and pack cannabis”.
The investigation into the suspicious activity “has been going on for about a year” and, on 16 June, the GNR carried out two search warrants, one at the home and the other in a vehicle.
The operation culminated in the couple's arrest and the dismantling of the greenhouse with the seizure of 43 cannabis plants.
The GNR also seized several weapons, namely firearms, knives, as well as computer material allegedly used in the crime of drug trafficking.
The detainees will be presented at the Judicial Court of Mirandela.
