In a statement released on 11 August, the port of Lisbon states that the 4,820,000 tonnes were handled in the first half of the year compared with 4,166,063 tonnes during the same period in 2020.
"Despite the strong global economic downturn and the entire negative situation, which affected the movement of cargo in the port of Lisbon, the figures for the month of June 2021 show a strong increase in the global movement of goods", the statement adds.
In the month of June, the increase was over 56.2 percent, in tonnes handled, this being the fourth consecutive month in which there is growth, can be read in the statement.
According to the organisation, in accumulated terms and by segment, in the first quarter the growth in containerised cargo at 38.8 percent (1,825,291 tons).
