According to the epidemiological bulletin released today by the Directorate General of Health, there is record of nine deaths with Covid-19 and seven more people hospitalised, bringing the total to 495.
Of these hospitalisations, 122 are in intensive care units, six more than on Wednesday. The total number of hospitalisations remains since Wednesday below 500, something that has not happened since mid-September 2020.
Health authorities have 16,182 contacts under surveillance today, 395 more than on Wednesday, and 601 more people have been reported recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 782,895 since the start of the pandemic.
There are eight fewer active cases today, which stand at 25,839.
Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 825,633 cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been diagnosed in Portugal and 16,899 people have died with Covid-19.
Most cases in the last 24 hours (229) have been diagnosed in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, where 312,799 people have been infected.
In the North, 189 more cases have been registered (331,793 in total), in the Centre region 64 more (117,595 since March 2020), in the Algarve 55 new cases (total 20,981), in the Alentejo 16 (29,277), 31 more cases in the Azores (total 4,198) and 18 new infections in Madeira (8,761 in total).
Of the deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, six have occurred in the Northern region, where 5,315 people have died with Covid-19, and three in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, where 7,161 people have died with Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
Since March last year, 3,002 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19 in the Central region, 970 in Alentejo, 354 in Algarve, 68 in Madeira and 29 in the Azores.
SARS-CoV-2 has already infected at least 451,157 women and 374,184 men in Portugal, with 292 cases of unknown sex under investigation, as these data are not provided automatically.
Most of the confirmed cases of contagion were in the 40-49 age group.
Since the start of the pandemic, 8,870 men and 8,020 women have died from Covid-19.
Most of the fatal cases of Covid-19 happened in the age group above 80 years.
In Portugal 1,969,036 doses of Covid vaccine have already been administered (61,848 more than on Wednesday), 1,397,726 first doses and 571,310 second doses.
