According to Lusa News Agency, the the DGPC is opening the doors of museums and monuments to young people of this age group free of charge for activities inspired by food, environment and sustainability.
This year, the date will be used to mark and promote the sight of young people on the theme "Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health", and initiatives will be developed to encourage the reflection of young people.
“Nowadays, young people play a crucial role in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The world has witnessed an unprecedented mobilization of young people around the world, which demonstrates the enormous potential they have for responsible decision makers”, says a text about the initiative, published on the DGPC's website.
The "Decade of Action" announced by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, in September 2019, "requires that populations, including young people, generate an unstoppable movement that fosters the necessary transformations", he adds.
The theme chosen for 2021 "allows young people the opportunity to integrate their voices, actions and initiatives, as well as defend their full, universal and equitable involvement in efforts to face the enormous challenges facing humanity", he further underlines.
