"People may think 'I'm used to the noise', but our brains are disturbed even without being woken up by the noise from the planes," argued Francisco Ferreira, speaking at a meeting of the Permanent Commission on the Environment and Quality of Life of the Lisbon City Council (AML)
The president of Zero was heard as part of a petition that entered AML in 2019 entitled "Portela Airport: we want to be informed and heard about its impacts".
Ferreira noted that measurements made by Zero indicated that noise exceeded the established limits, and only in the measurements made in March 2020, already during the Covid-19 pandemic, was compliance with the values recorded.
The limits are 65 decibels during the day and 55 decibels at night, he said. However, measurements made by Zero in July 2019 indicated that in the Campo Grande area those values were exceeded by 10 decibels, both during the day and at night.
"For us, the most urgent measure that can be carried out without any problem, especially in times of pandemic, is to end night flights and respect the noise limit at night between 11pm and 7am", he insisted.
