A great opportunity to come and sing many of the traditional Christmas carols in the superb setting of a restored convent over 300 years old. All Saints Lagoa has a reputation for being a very welcoming Church and children are especially welcome. The service will include a solo sung from the Church balcony, this happened for the first time last year and came as a surprise for the congregation who didn’t realise that it was possible to access this unique feature of the chapel. The balcony has no access from inside the chapel as this was originally built to enable the nuns to join the services without joining the congregation. The nuns could only access the terrace from their own accommodation. The convent had fallen into ruin since it was abandoned in the early 1900’s, but has since been completely and very sensitively restored by the Lagoa city hall. There is plenty of parking if you turn right just before the arch.
Christmas Eve midnight Holy Communion
All Saints Lagoa also hold a Christmas midnight service of Holy Communion. This service is timed to coincide with midnight Bethlehem time, in fact 21:00 (9 pm) which give the congregation time to return home long before midnight local time. Everyone is welcome from whatever denominational background. If you arrive early hot coffee and mince pies will be waiting for you.
Please remember to bring an anti-Covid mask, but this doesn’t stop people singing. During Holy Communion all Covid regulations are respected to ensure everyone’s safety.
