According to the IPMA, more than 60 municipalities in the interior North and Centre districts and also in the Algarve are at very high risk and around 70 municipalities in the districts of Braga, Porto, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon are at high risk.
The fire risk determined by IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.
Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
The critical period of fires lasts until the end of September and, until then, it is prohibited to start extensive fires or to burn without authorisation, to use stoves or grills throughout the countryside, and to smoke or make any kind of fire in forest areas.
For today, the IPMA predicts a small rise in maximum temperature and occasional strong winds in the highlands and on the western coastal strip south of Cabo da Roca. Morning cloudiness is also predicted on the west coast, which may persist in some places along the coastal strip in the Central region.
The maximum temperatures will vary between 21º (Aveiro) and 35º (Bragança and Évora) and the minimum between 13º (Guarda) and 19º (Faro).
