A source from the District Command of Faro Relief Operations told Lusa that “Now and for the rest of the day, the aftermath consolidation work will continue”, noting that the risk of the fire becoming a danger again is “minimal” at this time.
The fire initially began in the early hours of on Monday in the parish of Odeleite, in the municipality of Castro Marim, but spread to the neighbouring municipalities of Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira, forcing about 80 people to be removed from their homes.
By 4:20 pm, the fire mobilised 534 operatives, supported by 191 vehicles and six air assets, according to the national Civil Protection website.
