Comic Con Portugal should have happened last September at Passeio Marítimo de Algés, in Oeiras, but it was postponed because of the covid-19 pandemic, being now rescheduled for December and in a new space, generally indicated in Parque das Nações. It is in this area, divided between the municipalities of Loures and Lisbon, that various facilities are located, such as the Altice Arena concert hall, the Lisbon Exhibition and Congress Center, the former Portugal Pavilion, among others.

According to the company CITY - Conventions In The Yard, the next Comic Con Portugal will be under the theme "A New Hope" ("A new hope"), title of the first film of "Star Wars". "This year's motto will aim to inspire everyone to be happier and hope for a better future," reads the organization's press release. Comic Con Portugal was held for the first time in 2013, at Exponor, in Matosinhos, Porto district, where the first four editions took place.

After a protocol was signed with the Oeiras City Council, the convention took place in 2018 on the Passeio Marítimo de Algés. The protocol would be for three editions (2018, 2019 and 2020) and provided for the involvement, by the municipality, of a financial and logistical support of 330 thousand euros per edition. In 2020, instead of a physical edition, the organization decided to hold an online and free event in September on the official page, with presentations of films, books, comic books, video games and cosplay. The last physical edition was, then, in 2019, with several spaces and stages for the dissemination of content related to entertainment, cinema, television, cartoons and video games, and the presence of about 140 thousand visitors.

Among the international guests of the 2019 edition were, among others, Millie Bobby Brown, protagonist of the "Stranger Things" series, Tricia Helfer, who was part of the "Battlestar Galactica" series, Alexander Ludwig, of the "Vikings" series, and Benedict Wong, who participated in the films "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Infinity War". On Monday, the Comic Con of San Diego, United States, considered one of the most important conventions dedicated to pop culture and entertainment, announced that the physical edition scheduled for this year, in July, has been postponed to 2022, because of the pandemic.
