The statement stressed that growth picked up in September, with exports totalling €560 million, up 20 percent month-on-month, with the forecast that the yearend target of €6 billion again remains in reach for 2015 following its achievement last year.
Primary products, especially meat, fruit and horticultural products saw the strongest growth up 30 percent year-on-year in September, followed by fish and shellfish, up 17 percent and other foods, up five percent.
The European market has proven the main driver of growth, accounting for €3.2 billion of the export total with France and Germany key growth markets, up 30 percent and 41.5 percent respectively.
The statement pointed to how strong growth in Latin America, Israel, South Korea and China had helped to offset markets displaying conjunctural difficulties such as Russia, Angola and Brazil.
In recent years, Portuguese exporters have moved into over 80 new markets and are exporting 222 products or product groups.
