Manuel Salgado, Councillor for Urbanism, said that council services last October flagged 42 municipal buildings as having asbestos in them.
“By 2017 it will be removed from all of them,” Salgado said at a municipal assembly, in response to a question posed by the PEV green party.
Of the 42 buildings identified by the council, 13 are used for municipal services, five are used by local fire-fighters and municipal police, 14 are schools, four are sports facilities and two are cemeteries.
The councillor also said that of the private buildings that have been identified, two in Benfica “have already been demolished.”
