Following the success of the destination’s association with the Volvo World Match Play event last year, the Algarve will head to Scotland in July to showcase its unique attributes to a distinguished and knowledgeable audience, backed by a pre-event, multi-platform campaign.
This will include the opportunity for four lucky golfers to play the historic Trump Turnberry Ailsa golf course and offering 150 golf fans the chance to witness all the action of the prestigious event.
From 30 July to 2 August, the illustrious competition will see some of the world’s finest lady golfers - including defending champion Mo Martin and Michelle Wie who won her first major at last year’s US Open - compete for the title.
A spokesperson for ATA said: “We are delighted to be the ‘Official European Golf Destination’ of the Ricoh Women’s British Open, and we look forward to a fantastic event at Trump Turnberry Resort at the end of July.
“We have a number of fun and interesting campaigns in store which we’re confident will get people really excited about golf in the Algarve.”
IMG Tournament Director Ross Hallett added: “We’re thrilled to once again work with the Algarve Tourism Board and welcome them as the ‘Official European Golf Destination’ for the 2015 Ricoh Women’s British Open.
“We believe that the Championship will provide a fantastic platform for them to showcase the best of the Algarve to a captivated golf audience.”
The Algarve’s sun-drenched climate boasts more than 300 days of sunshine per year, extending the golf season by several months and bringing players from all over the world to the region.
