Over the past 14 years – Rock in Rio Lisboa takes place every two years – more than two million people have passed through what has become known as the ‘City of Rock’.
Next year Rock in Rio takes place on 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 May, its organisers confirmed on Monday.
The seventh edition of the Portuguese leg of Rock in Rio will be dedicated to its 30-year history, having first been introduced in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1985.
In the Portuguese capital the mammoth event took place for the first time in 2004, bringing the brand overseas, before moving on to Spain and the USA in following years.
Earlier this month the original Rock in Rio was staged in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and celebrated the event’s 30 year landmark with performances from legendary acts that also performed at the very first event, back in 1985, such as Queen and Rod Stewart.
In Portugal, over the past six editions, the Lisbon stage has been graced by names including Foo Fighters, Metallica, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, Queens of The Stone Age, Arcade Fire, Justin Timberlake and the Rolling Stones.
