The victims, aged between 20 and 30, were all sitting on a café esplanade in the centre of Arrentela when they were hit by the shots.
The incident, described in the press as an ‘attempted murder’, is believed to be gang-related and carried out by a group feuding with the Jamaica neighbourhood in Fogueteiro.
Three or four assailants are believed to have been inside a dark-coloured car when the shots were fired.
The victims were reportedly sat on the esplanade talking and scattered as soon as the shots were fired. They took refuge in the surrounding buildings and are said to have been hit in the legs with pellets.
PSP officers were called in and the injured were taken to the Garcia da Orta Hospital from where they were discharged a while later.
PJ police were at the scene collecting evidence; investigators believe the incident is payback for an earlier attack involving youths from the Jamaica estate.
