Drafted by the Left Bloc (BE), the Greens, and the Party for People Animals and Nature (PAN), the proposal is the result of a petition that gathered over 5,500 signatures.
It suggests the owners of establishments should be allowed to decide whether or not they allow pets in.
The objective is to prevent pet owners from leaving their animals inside cars or tied up outside.
I am surprised to learn that this was not already the case. I am moving to Portugal this next month, and assumed (foolishly) that like Northern Europe, people with well behaved dogs would be welcome in most places. I hope the bill is passed. Dog friendly establishments will certainly see more of my business.
