The new legislation, which has been widely welcomed by driving schools, also states learners will also have spend at least 32 hours driving, as opposed to the previous rule where they needed to complete 32 lessons of 50 minutes each.
Driving schools now have three months to fit the necessary equipment in their vehicles which will log individual driving times and distances.
It is unclear whether these changes will see prospective drivers having to pay more in order to lay their hands on a licence.
