Last month Lisbon airport saw a record number of two million passengers pass through its gates.
Operation Pegasus II started last night at midnight and will remain in place for 24 hours.
It aims to clamp down on weapons, drugs and stolen goods being carried thorough airports as well as citizens travelling illegally.
