S&P maintains sovereign rating at junk level

Rating agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) kept Portugal’s rating at 'BB+', or 'junk', on Friday, with a stable outlook, showing its concerns with the risk of the banks and the high public and private debt levels.

S&P maintains sovereign rating at junk level

 

On the bright side, S&P highlighted the "current budget consolidation, improvements in the maturity profile of the public debt and the European Central Bank’s (ECB) accommodating monetary policy".

 

S&P estimates that the Portuguese economy is going to grow 1.6% this year, compared with 1.4% last year and forecasts that this "modest economic recovery" has positive effects "on all sectors".
