The DGS bulletin also reveals that 6,775 people are hospitalised, 94 fewer than on Monday, of which 853 in intensive care units, 13 fewer.
The DGS epidemiological bulletin released today also notes that a further 17,572 people have been reported as recovered (more than three times the number of new cases), bringing the number of recovered since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal to 551,956.
Today was the second day in a row that the number of recovered people exceeded the number of new infections.
Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 13,017 deaths associated with Covid-19 and 731,861 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, and today 166,888 cases are active, 12,292 fewer than on Monday.
Health authorities have 215,536 contacts under surveillance, 4,817 fewer than the previous day.
Regarding the 260 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 116 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 65 in the North region, 55 in the Centre region, 17 in Alentejo and seven in the Algarve region.
In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region 2,520 new infections have been reported, with 267,927 cases and 5,100 deaths so far.
The Northern region has registered 1,596 new SARS-CoV-2 infections in the last 24 hours and since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 309,008 cases of infection and 4,611 deaths.
In the Centre Region there have been a further 940 cases, with 104,034 infections and 2,307 deaths.
In Alentejo, a further 230 cases were reported, totalling 25,552 infections and 705 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.
The Algarve region has today reported 126 new cases, totalling 17,569 infections and 226 deaths.
Madeira has registered 110 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 4,221 infections and 43 deaths due to Covid-19.
In the Autonomous Region of the Azores 18 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 3,550 infections and 25 deaths.
The confirmed cases are spread over all age groups, with the highest number of infections recorded being between 20 and 59 years old.
The new coronavirus has already infected at least 330,550 men and 401,081 women in Portugal, according to DGS data, 230 cases of unknown sex are under investigation, as these data are not provided automatically.
Of the total number of fatalities, 6,789 were male and 6,228 female.
The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over the age of 80, followed by the 70-79 age group.
Of the total of 13,017 deaths, 8,763 were over 80 years old, 2,661 were between 70 and 79 years old and 1,103 were between 60 and 69 years old.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 2,237,990 deaths from over 103.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a review by the French agency AFP.
