The DGS epidemiological bulletin also reveals that 6,070 people are hospitalised, minus 274, the biggest reduction recorded in recent days, of which 862 in intensive care units, minus 15.
The previous biggest decrease in the number of admissions in 2021 occurred on 6 February, when the bulletin reported 6,158 people admitted, 254 fewer than the previous day.
Today's data also reveal that 15,157 people have been reported as having recovered, bringing the number of recovered people to 628,078 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020.
For nine consecutive days, the number of recovered people has exceeded that of new infections. Today it corresponds to almost six times the number of new cases.
Active cases in Portugal are also decreasing. There are 127,867 people with active infection, 12,777 fewer than on Sunday and the lowest figure since 16 January, when there were 128,165.
Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 14,557 deaths associated with Covid-19 and 770,502 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Health authorities have 171,554 contacts under surveillance, 9,351 fewer than the previous day. This indicator has also shown a consistent decline since 30 January.
Of the 203 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 115 occurred in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, 35 in the North region, 34 in the Centre region, 16 in Alentejo, one in the Algarve region, one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and one in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 1,214 new infections have been reported, with 287,879 cases and 5,905 deaths so far.
Lisbon and Tagus Valley has today 46.9 percent of the total new cases at national level and 56.6 percent of the deaths in the last 24 hours.
The Northern region has registered 649 new SARS-CoV-2 infections in the last 24 hours and since the beginning of the pandemic has already registered 318,077 cases of infection and 4,884 deaths.
In the Centre region there have been a further 439 cases, with 109,841 infections and 2,593 deaths.
In Alentejo a further 119 cases were reported, totalling 27,118 infections and 829 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.
The Algarve region has today reported 88 new cases, totalling 18,863 infections and 265 deaths.
Madeira has registered 68 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 5,095 infections and 54 deaths due to Covid-19.
In the Autonomous Region of the Azores six new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 3,629 infections and 27 deaths.
The confirmed cases are spread over all age groups, with the highest number of infections recorded being between 20 and 59 years old.
The new coronavirus has already infected at least 348,193 men and 422,061 women in Portugal, according to DGS data, there are 248 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since these data are not provided automatically.
Of the total number of fatalities, 7,578 were men and 6,979 women.
The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over the age of 80, followed by the 70-79 age group.
Of the total of 14,557 deaths, 9,754 were over 80 years old, 3,007 were between 70 and 79 years old and 1,243 were between 60 and 69 years old.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 2,325,744 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 106.4 million cases of infection, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.
