“The alert was given this morning. According to a relative, he left the hotel yesterday [Wednesday] at the end of the afternoon and the alert was given that he had not returned this morning,” said Lino Sá.

Highlighting that “so far there is not much to add”, the deputy commander stressed that the teams are engaged in the searches.

Involved in the searches are 22 workers from the Civil Protection, PSP, Forest Police and Fire Department of Calheta, according to the official.

The man, who is on vacation in Madeira, was traveling between Porto Moniz and Calheta.

“I think he would be practicing for the MIUT [Madeira Island Ultra Trail] race because the route that a relative informed us will be that one, but we don't know, what we know is that he went out to practice sports”, stressed Lino Sá.
