The epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) indicates that four more people are currently in the hospital wards, totalling 431.

Already in intensive care units there are 108 patients, two more compared to Thursday.

The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo area has 65.3 percent of the total of new national infections, registering today 1,049 cases.

For the third consecutive day, the number of cases in the last 24 hours are similar to values ​​recorded in February. In today's case, the value of 1,604 is the highest since February 19, when Portugal reported 1,940 new cases of infection.

The two deaths in the last 24 hours occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region and the people were over 80 years old.

Data released by the DGS also show that there are over 745 active cases, totalling 30,442 and that 857 were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, increasing the national total to 823,960 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,081 people have died in Portugal and 871,483 cases of infection have been registered.

The number of contacts under surveillance by health authorities rose by 2,687, more than double the previous day, totalling 47,357.

The incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal continues to rise, standing today at 138.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as in the entire territory, which is now 137.5, according to official data.

According to the joint epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), the transmissibility index (Rt) decreased from 1.17 to 1.14 throughout the national territory and from 1.18 to 1.15 in mainland Portugal.

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 1,049 new infections were reported, accounting for 335,231 cases and 7,253 deaths so far.

The Northern region now has 239 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 344,403 cases of infection and 5,362 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were over 120 cases, totalling 121,453 infections and 3,027 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 31 more cases were reported, totalling 30,817 infections and 972 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 159 cases were registered, totalling 23,641 infections and 365 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has registered five cases, totalling 9,874 infections and 69 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have a new case and account for 6,064 cases and 33 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,966 were men and 8,115 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,213 were people over 80 years old, 3,645 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,538 were between 60 and 69 years old.
