The company that manages Estaminé, the only restaurant and beach support structure on Ilha Deserta, to the west of Farol Island, in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, clarified that walkways, toilets and showers are already available, as well as the service of drinks and snacks, although they recognise that there is still work to be done.
The same source guaranteed that the recovery carried out after the fire that had “completely consumed the building” allows “to guarantee the minimum services of access and use of the beach and the building”, whose destruction left the island only accessible by boat without any structure.
The restaurant and support equipment are the only existing equipment on Deserta Island, they are managed by a private company and, on 3 March, they were destroyed by fire.
The commander of the Southern Maritime Zone, Fernando Rocha Pacheco, told the Lusa News Agency at the time that the authorities received the alert at 11pm and, when the Firefighters Sapadores de Faro and the Maritime Police arrived at the site, the “great dimension” of the flames had “consumed” the structure and there was “nothing left to save”.
