“Portugal, so far, has donated 2.7 million doses of vaccines. By the end of the year, we will reach 4.5 million doses donated, in particular to Portuguese-speaking African countries, East Timor and to the multilateral mechanism Covax”.

Regarding the global fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the prime minister argued that "it is essential that Europe concentrates on this effort to share vaccines with other continents, namely with Africa".

“As demonstrated with the Omicron variant, it is essential to increase the capacity for vaccination on a global scale, so that we can all feel safe. One of the main objectives must be vaccination at a global level, which has nothing to do with patents, but with increasing production at a global level. Portugal has been an example in terms of vaccination, but also in sharing vaccines”, said António Costa.
