"CTT stresses that it is always alert to market opportunities, having received expressions of interest with a view to a potential acquisition of a qualified minority stake in the capital of Banco CTT," the company said in a statement sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CMVM).
According to the statement, "the parties have been developing contacts in this regard, which are, however, still at a preliminary stage".
"CTT will keep regulators and the market informed of any relevant development, which at this moment seems premature", it concludes.
Mozambican daily newspaper Económico reported that a minority investor is being negotiated to take a stake in Banco CTT, stating that the postal company will transfer a stake of up to 30 percent and that one of the interested parties is Una Seguros, controlled by a Chinese group.
The newspaper said that the operation will be carried out via a capital increase at Banco CTT, to be subscribed by the new minority shareholder, diluting CTT's stake.
